4,945 lbs– that’s how much trash was pulled out of the Tennessee River this past weekend by a crew of volunteers during the iSustain-sponsored Keep the TN River Beautiful river clean up event.
This two-day effort was held on Chickamauga Lake of the Tennessee River in Soddy Daisy in partnership with the Chickamauga Lake Fly, Bait & Casting Club (a participant in KTNRB’s Adopt a River Mile program) and the Soddy Daisy Beautification Project. Both partners assisted with local volunteer recruitment for the cleanup days.
The clean up series was made possible thanks to a $2,500 sponsorship from iSustain, and we are proud to help in this amazing work however we can as it aligns perfectly with our mission as an organization. The KTNRB Executive Director, Kathleen Gibi, termed our team “river champions,” and that is exactly what we aim to be.
“iSustain’s extensive recycling efforts are regularly saving our waterways from literally tons of potential litter each year, and supporting our river cleanups just takes their environmental stewardship to the next level,” Gibi said.
On day one of the Keep the TN River Beautiful event, volunteers removed 2,104 lbs. of garbage from the river, followed by another 2,841 lbs. on day two. We’d like to say a special ‘thank you’ to Priority Waste for assisting in the disposal of all trash collected by our volunteer team. The collective efforts were a great success, and a testament to the difference we can make for our environment when we all make time to pitch in.
