Annually, about 2.5 billion metric tons of solid waste is produced around the world and, within that staggering number, 275 million metric tons is waste from plastic products. Of the 275 million metric tons of plastic waste produced, 8 million metric tons of plastics find their way into our oceans every year, disrupting the delicate ocean ecosystem and destroying one of our most precious natural resources. While the problem may seem dire at this point, we here at iSustain believe that with a concentrated effort we can help to reduce the amount of plastic that is dumped in the ocean every year by developing innovative solutions to handle plastic waste streams. Our Plastic Recycling Solutions
At iSustain, we don’t just look for a one-size-fits-all solution to reducing the amount of plastic waste that makes its way into our oceans. Instead, we approach each of our clients with an open mind, developing a custom plan to address their needs and consolidate their waste stream. These plans include improving logistics associated with waste disposal and recycling programs, finding unique ways to reuse as much waste material as possible, and working tirelessly to ensure that our clients are able to reduce the amount of plastics and other recyclables that make their way into landfills and oceans each year. Whatever the problem, iSustain will work to find a solution that is beneficial to both the client and our planet.
Through our programs, we help our clients recycle 3.3 million pounds of plastic waste each month. Recycling just one ton of plastic saves 685 gallons of oil, 5,774 kilowatt hours of energy, and frees up 30 cubic yards of landfill space. More importantly, recycled plastics are taken out of the waste stream of plastics that find their way into the ocean.
