Through our blog series, Innovations for Sustainability, we’ve explored some of the exciting technologies and initiatives being taken by companies and organizations all over the world in the face of the recycling crisis. It’s something we must all take seriously. It’s something we all must work to reverse. We have to band together to change the momentum. We have to save the oceans and the earth from ourselves.
We see Lafarge Cement Company making strides for sustainability in the way they manufacture concrete. Their outside-the-box thinking and production techniques help to reduce emissions while finding new use for waste items that would otherwise find their way to the landfills. We see Fiberon taking a similar approach within the decking industry. Their commitment to sustainable manufacturing– diverting more than 70,000 tons of wood and waste plastics from landfills every single year.
We also see Turf Cushion™ creating incredible, high-performance turf underlay 100% from recycled products. Not only is this product unbelievably effective boasting the highest possible safety rating in the industry, but also it’s 100% recyclable and carbon neutral. The innovators at Turf Cushion™ developed their top-of-the-line product using a combination of recycled polyethylene and a brand new product called Eco Raw™– a sugarcane polyethylene. This turf is literally made from sugarcane and other recycled materials!
We see innovators in the agricultural industry using anaerobic digestion processes to turn food waste and other unusable products into renewable resources. The biogas created in anaerobic digesters can be used directly as fuel, instead of relying so heavily on non-renewable fossil fuels. This natural process for waste treatment yields big results that are great for our planet.
The common thread that runs through the work of each of these companies and organizations is an eco-mindedness– a commitment to moving the needle for good. At a time during which the state of the earth begs us to make a change, these companies have dug deep for new approaches, creative techniques, and outlandish ideas. And that’s exactly what we need more of. At iSustain we are committed to nurturing sustainability. We ask you to stand next to us through this mission, because an all-hands-on-deck approach is what it will take to really change the world.
