Alternative Energy Solutions
As a responsible business that can affect change, iSustain is committed to providing sustainable waste disposal alternatives that can positively impact your environmental footprint. Our alternative energy solutions can effectively divert residual non-hazardous waste from landfills to cement or energy production solutions.
Even though some nonhazardous materials may not be readily recyclable, many can easily be diverted from landfills for safe energy reuse. These include:
- Plastics
- Wood, Coated Papers, Wax, Fiber Cores, and Paper Based Products
- Textiles
- Roofing Shingles
- Rubber and Scrap Tires
- Non-Halogenated Plastics
- Packaging Materials
- Out of Spec, Recalled Goods, and Products for Destruction
- Contaminated Recyclables
- And More
Co-Processing in Kilns
Co-processing is a globally recognized method used in energy-intensive industries to treat waste responsibly and in an environmentally sustainable manner. Co-processing completely destroys waste materials through high temperatures, extended residence time, and turbulence inside cement kilns, providing extremely efficient destruction for all waste types.
During co-processing, the mineral component of the waste replaces primary mineral materials (like clay, iron, or limestone), while the combustible part of the waste furnishes the necessary energy for clinker production. This yields a complete recycling and recovery of the entire waste input, leaving no residual remnants. This process helps establish a regenerative circular economy that closes resource cycles, reduces dependency on natural resources, and facilitates a decrease in worldwide CO2 emissions.
The waste hierarchy is our guiding principle when determining the best method of managing your waste. The waste hierarchy is built upon the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle concepts. The fourth “R,” Recover, is less known but just as important. The hierarchy shows waste management activities in descending order of preference. By following the waste hierarchy for the management of waste & byproducts, we can reduce our impact on the environment, lower greenhouse gas emissions and save energy. Our kiln co-processing partners provide communities and businesses with critical solutions for materials that may not be readily recycled in traditional technologies.
With our kiln partners, we offer a reliable waste disposal option with state-of-the-art air pollution control technology. We utilize facilities that use advanced air pollution control equipment and emissions monitoring systems that comply with strict state and federal emission standards. Our partner facilities reduce emissions by over 20 million tons by avoiding methane from decomposing waste in landfills, offsetting fossil fuel electrical production, and recovering metals for recycling.
We believe in making sustainable choices when it comes to waste processing. iSustain provides customized alternative energy solutions that allow our customers to make a sustainable choice.
Our recycling professionals have an intimate knowledge of alternative energy waste facilities, and each has decades of hands-on experience. Our expertise allows us to develop efficient, turnkey programs that complement your existing manufacturing and distribution operation.
Remember, Out of Sight Is Not Out of Mind!
Over 250 million tons of trash are buried each year in U.S. landfills.
Did you know:
- The average person dumps 4.5 pounds of waste into landfills daily?
- Or that the 250 million tons of trash in landfills is enough to bury 16,000 football fields 10 feet deep?
- Or if more people followed the waste hierarchy, we would reduce greenhouse gasses by a gigaton — the equivalent of closing 1,000 large coal-fired power plants?
Alternative energy technologies are an alternative to the local landfill, and we can help you navigate the process of fuel qualification, logistics, and operational turnkey execution. iSustain can help you where traditional waste management and recycling companies cannot.
